Depression and Suicide:

Anyone who has been depressed knows that it can cause anxiety, personal dissatisfaction, emptiness and despair. You can feel hopeless, listless, even a failure and this low mood doesn't improve. Often all you want to do is retreat to your bed and turn off to the rest of the world. Some people may also have suicidal feelings. If you feel this way it is important that you seek professional help. Therapy can provide you with an empathic, supportive, non-judgemental space where you can work through what is happening to you when depressed. It can also provide you with coping skills to enable you to manage your life.

Anxiety and Panic Attacks, Agoraphobia:

For many people anxiety seems to come from nowhere and hit them full on. Their symptoms can become so severe that they become disabling. Anxiety is like a black hole. It sucks in your hopes, pleasures, your plans for the future and your energy. Anxiety can also lead to alienation and a fear of interaction with others resulting in agoraphobia. Many people try to cope on their own but when it develops into panic attacks they really need help, and therapy can offer them the space and expertise to understand their anxiety. Therapy can also offer coping skills to help reduce their anxiety and allow them to reclaim their lives.

Anger Issues and Bullying:

Everybody can be angry at times. However, when anger takes over your life and you cannot control it you need to stand back and explore what is creating this anger. Therapy can help you search for causes of anger, what triggers it and how to channel it in a way that is not disruptive to yourself or others.
Bullying is another issue that can be experienced by both young people (in school, cyber bullying etc.) and also in the adult working world. Therapy can provide a safe place for victims of bullying to talk, learn coping skills and become more assertive. It can also help the bully work on the issues that have caused him/her to behave this way.

Low Self-Esteem:

High self-esteem allows people build a positive, happy life for themselves and equips them with the skills to weather the difficult times. Low self-esteem, a negative belief about oneself, disables a person in life and can cause low mood and depression, lethargy, relationship problems and many others. Therapy enables the client to look into the past, perhaps back to their childhood, to discover where these negative beliefs come from. Gradually you can learn to substitute these beliefs with a more positive perspective through the use of approaches such as CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) or MBCT (Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy) among others.

Loss and Bereavement, Separation & Divorce:

Loss is a huge part of our lives and yet it can be very hard to accept when confronted with it. In therapy, you have the space and time to explore and work through that loss, whether it is death, separation, divorce, break down of relationships, 'empty-nest', loneliness etc. Life rushes you ahead, therapy allows you stop and dwell in that place for an hour a week, enabling you to heal and gradually accept your loss and move forward.
